Bath House Completed
Well almost. Some of the small details, such as new mirrors, shelves, hooks, stall doors, etc. are yet to be finished. But over all it is a great imporvement and is appreciated by our campers. Special thanks to the ladies from our member churches for their generous gifts for thsi project and with the volunteer labor by several workers we had sufficient funds to pay for material and labor. By next camping season we plan to have designated walk ways from the cabins to the bath house and a rinsing station outside for the campers to wash off their feet etc. in an effort to eliminate the traking of sand and dirt into the bath house proper. Also, we are researching the possibility of adding on bathroom facilities to the dining hall. As we continue to pray and support the ministry of the Camp we seek the blessing and wisdom from God in all we do.
Annual Meeting
November 14, 2009
Each member church is entitled to have three adults represent their church family at the annual meeting, your camp representative, your minister and a member at large. This will be held at the Black River Falls Church located 1 1/2 miles north of I-94 on Hwy 12 & 27. The meeting will begin at 10:00 with a pot luck meal held at noon. We encourage you to be present as deans will be approved for the 2010 camping season, the budget will be presented for approval, consideration given to future plans and campus development, evaluation of the past camping season, etc. Your attendance and participation is not only a great encouragment but also a blessing as we continue witht he ministry of Christian Harbor Youth Camp.
Churches Encouraged To Use Campground
Christian Harbor Youth Camp belongs to our churches and we encourage churches to use the facilities there for a weekend, an evening or a day. Bring your campers and tents, bring your own food and enjoy a weekend at CHYC. We would ask for a donation to the camp for the use of the facilities. If you would like the camp to provide food then there would be a per-person charge for that. During the winter the staff cabin can be made ready for a small group, 12 or less, on a donation basis. The main lodge is also available during the summer for receptions, reunions, etc. For more information, contact Russ Kinney, camp manager, at 715-403-1940. |
We'r In Need of Additional Staff for 2010
As most of you know, our Waterfront Director, Jeremy Coggins, will not be returning next year. Jeremy will be working as an intern with one of our church for the summer. Also, we have been notified that our Health Provider will not be returning. That means that both of these positions are open. State regulations require that these positions be filled by an adults, 18 or older, with certain qualifications. If you are interested, or know of someone who is or would be, let us know and we can supply the details regarding required qualifications, responsibilities and duties.
Speaking of staff, we want to encourage volunteer staff. As you know, all of the faculty are volunteers and many take vacation time to serve in this way. how about those of you who do not feel qualified to teach or serve as dorm parents? You can volunteer to help in the kitchen, help with grounds keeping or with what ever you are capable of doing. We will provide room and board while you are here. Come for a few days, for a week, or maybe even more.
For those who are retiared and have RVs, how about camping our at Christian Harbor for a week or more? We will provide camping space and you can take your meals in the dining hall or fix your own and spend a few hours each day helping out with the daily chores of camp. Give this some thought and contact us early next spring as we prepare for our next camping season.
Our Wishing Well
Maybe a Sunday School class, a small group or your church would like to provide one or more of the following items that would be great to have or would help keep the cost of meals down.
-2 electric roasters
-Copy machine
-Golf cart
-12 volt battery charger
-Lawn sweeper
-Paddle boats repaired
-White copy paper
-# 10 cans of vegetables
-# 10 cans of fruit
-Paper towels
-Dinner napkins
-Lemonade mix
-Spaghetti
-Instant pudding
-Jello
-Hot chocolate packets
-Gallon size zip lock bags
-Your continued prayers
-Your continued financial support
-Your young people at camp
We appreciate so much your interest and support of CHYC. If it weren't for you, our camp would not be able to continue to teach and train young people for the Lord's work. |
The 2009 camping season was great! We has a total of 283 campers, 20 young people accepted Christ (17 of which were baptized into Christ at camp), 4 re-dedications, over $6,000 given to missions (some of which was designated for camp improvments), additional revenue generated by the car show and fund raising dinner. Over 50 showed up for the spring work and fishing weekend, a log of painting was done, chapel insulated and air conditioned, and the list goes on. Yes, it required long hours by our staff, many hours of donated labor, competent leadership by our deans, dedicated effort by the faculty, but such time and effort was rewarding as we consider the results.
We are looking forward to a great camping season in 2010. There will be more campus improvements. Work and Fishing weekend, as well as the car show, will be planned again. As soon as the deans are approved work will bein on planning a Bible based curriculum, special acitivities and making arrangements for special speakers and visiting missionaries along with our Bible College Camp Teams.
All of this energy, time and effort is aimed at fulfilling our mission statement which identifies our purpose as "providing a camping experience where campers are drawn into a closer relationship with Jesus Christ." Each of you who attend camp, volunteer time, talent and energy, give financial support, and pray for God's direction, provision and blessing, are an important part of the team and share in the joy of the results. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!! |
Support You Camp
We appriciate those of you who give regularly to the camp, either individually or through your church. If you are not giving now, would you consider doing so? have you thought about putting the camp in your will?
The camp is here to encourage yougn people in their walk with Christ and to bring them to a closer relationship with Him. Your gifts to the camp make you a co-worker with those who are able to be at the camp during the weeks when youth are there. We have heard from many who tell about the influence the camp has in their lives. Let's make it the best that it can be. Your donations can make that happen.
Continued Campus Imporvements
In an effort to continue our campus improvements and thus augment our mission statement, the following will be targeted before the 2010 camping season begins. Some of these projects will be started yet this fall, others will have to wait until spring. Some, perhaps, can be accomplished during the wither months. However to accomplish the following will require many hours of volunteer labor. If you see a project in this list that fits your abilities and talent, give us a call and arrangements will be made and supplies provided for you to invest some time and energy in the ministry of Christian Harbor Youth Camp:
-Painting inside of cabins
-Painting cabin exteriors
-Trimming trees and removing dead branches
-Landscaping
-Painting staff cabin
-Installing additional window air conditioners in chapel
-Painting concrete foundation of the chapel
-Developing walk ways from the bath house to cabins
-Imporving surface of the dining hall floor
-Installing additional playground equipment
-Imporving cabin rodent control
-Some re-wiring of cabins and installing outside lighting
-More gravel for lanes
-Rinsing stations at the bath house
-Installation of shelving in cabin and bath house
-New mirrors in bath house
-More flowerbeds
-Painting of entrance sign
-Installation of emergency siren
-New doors for some of the cabins
As you can see there is plenty to do and as the ministry continues to grow more an dmore thins come to mind. As the Lord provides, as support and interest in our camp increases, as we remain faithful to our misison, and by the grade and blessing of the Lord, such imporvement will enhance the ministry an doutreach of Christian Harbor. Thanks to all of your for your part in this work. |
Mark Your Calendar
We hope to see many of you athe the campground on the weekend of June 4 - 6, 2010. we will again be having the god's Great Outdoors fishing event, along with the work weekend to get the campground ready for the summer camping season.
Cabins and the bath house will be available for those that would be available for those that would like to spend a night or two or you can bring your own camper. Food will be provided for all workers. It's a great time to meet and work with others who have an interest in the camp.
From the Chairman
Well, another camp season has passed, and as we get farther into the gorgeous autumn season we take some time to reminisce.
I want to thanks all of you students who attended camp this year. I want to thanks all of out staff: Nate, Brandt, Julie, Brenda, Tabitha, Patrice, Tim... as deans, and all those of you who volunteered your time to help encourage our young people.
I had th eopportunity to be on staff at two camps ans was privileged to observe a few days of other camps. What a joy to see yougn folks who are excited about camp and who come with a desire to learn and grow in the Lord. Even though I am far from being a young person myself, I still find that I look forward to camp each summer. As a boy growing up back east, camp was the highlight of my summer. I eagerly anticipated the time I would be able to spend with my friends I hadn't seen for a long time. I enjoyed meeting new firend who may have been there for the first time. It was always amusing to see some of the kids who would come up from New York City who had never been outside the city. They had no clue what he country was all about. One time there was even a discussion as to whether they were looking at cows or horses. What fond memories. And I hope and pray that all of you are building lasting memories of your camp days.
Now let's turn our attention to next summer. I know it seems a long way off right now, but it will be here before we know it.
Let's each do our best to make this next year the best ever. It's not too early to be making plans and encouraging our friends to attend. We are busily working at getting our staff together. So we ansiously await seeing all of you next summer.
Oh, by the way, wasn't the food excellent? Thanks, Karen!
