Christian Harbor Youth Camp Statement of Belief

ABOUT GOD:  There is one God in three persons:  Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  “God is love,” and He loves the world.  “God is light” and He is completely pure and righteous.   “God is a consuming fire,” and He will judge the world with justice.  God is the creator and sustainer of the universe and all living things.  The only way to God is through the son Jesus Christ.

Genesis 1:1ff;  John 14: 6;  Acts 17:24 – 28;  I John 1:5, 4:16;  Hebrews 11:3, 12:29

ABOUT JESUS CHRIST:  Jesus Christ was with God in the very beginning, and God created the universe through Him.  Jesus was born of the virgin Mary, conceived by the Holy Spirit, and took on flesh and blood and made His dwelling among us living a sinless life.  He died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sin, resurrected bodily from the grave, and ascended into heaven where he is our Advocate.  He will return one day as victorious Lord and to judge the earth.

Matthew 1:18 – 21; John 1:1 – 4, 1:14; I Corinthians 15:1 – 8; Hebrews 7:25;  Romans 5:8;  I Thessalonians 4:16

ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT:  The Holy Spirit’s role in the life of the believer is to regenerate the believing sinner, counsel us in the truth, convict us of sin, witness to Jesus and empower us to live holy lives pleasing to God.  The Holy Spirit is the teacher of God’s Word and the guide for daily living.

John 16:5 – 15;  Galatians 5:16, 22 – 24;  John 3:3 – 5

ABOUT THE BIBLE:  Our primary source for understanding and teaching comes from the Bible.  We believe that the Bible is the Word of God, fully inspired and without error in the original manuscripts, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and that it has supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

2 Timothy 3:16 – 17;  2 Peter 1: 20 – 21

ABOUT SIN:  All humans were created in the image of God but are now separated from God having sinned and fallen short of God’s glory; thus, all are in need of salvation.  Sin is a lack of conforming to the will and character of God. Sin entered the world through Adam’s disobedience in the Garden of Eden.  The consequence of sin is eternal death and loss of hope without the saving grace found through Jesus Christ.

Genesis 3;  Romans 6:23;  John 3:5;  Romans 3:23 – 24

ABOUT SALVATION:  Salvation is by grace through a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ through his blood.  It is a gift which cannot be earned or achieved by works.  Thus, God receives all the glory for our salvation.
We believe that those who repent of their sins, confess in Jesus Christ as Lord, trust in Him, and are baptized are regenerated by the Holy Spirit and have an inheritance in heaven awaiting them.  Though no man can snatch us from God’s hand, we have a free will to turn from Him and deny Him.

Matthew 10:32;  Luke 13:3;  John 10:29;  Acts 2:38;  Ephesians 2:8-9,13;  Hebrews 6:4-6;  I Peter 1:3-5

ABOUT THE CHURCH:  The church is the body and bride of Christ on earth and is identified locally by ministering congregations.  The church is empowered by the Holy Spirit to go out into the world and “make disciples of all nations.”  The church exists to reach the lost and teach the saved.

Matthew 28:19-20;  I Corinthians 12:12-27;  Ephesians 4:1 – 6;  I Corinthians 12:12,13;  Acts 15:23

ABOUT THE ORDINANCES:  We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ has committed two ordinances to the local church:  baptism and the Lord’s Supper.  We believe that Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water into the name of the triune God.  We believe that the Lord’s Supper was instituted by Christ for commemoration of His death.  We believe that these two ordinance should be observed and administered until the return of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Acts 2:38;  Matthew 28:19-20;  I Corinthians 11:23-32

ABOUT THE FUTURE:  Biblical prophecy can be interpreted in many ways.  One of the things on which the Bible is clear is that Christ will return, and God will ultimately be victorious.  Those who abide in Christ Jesus will receive eternal life.  We anxiously await His coming and look forward to His heavenly reign.

I Thessalonians 4:13-17
