Dr. Mike Nichols
Michael “Mike” was born in 1958 and raised in central Illinois as a “preacher’s kid.” His father Ed Nichols was involved in the preaching ministry and cross-cultural missions for over forty years. Mike graduated with a B.A. degree from Lincoln Christian College (now Lincoln Christian University) in 1980 and a M.A. degree from Lincoln Christian Seminary in 1983.
Mike was youth minister at the Greenview Christian Church in Greenview, Illinois for five years before becoming a missionary. He and his family served as missionaries with ACM International (formerly African Christian Mission) in The Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire), from 1983 to1993. For 27 years (1994 to 2021) Mike taught at Lincoln Christian University in Lincoln, Illinois. He was Professor and Director for the Intercultural Studies Program in the undergraduate school. Mike was named “Professor Emeritus” of Intercultural Studies in 2021.
Mike has made numerous short-term ministry trips to over twenty countries. He is a 2014 graduate of Trinity International University (Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, TEDS) where he earned a PhD degree in Intercultural Studies with a minor in Education.
Mike and his wife Julie (originally from Ontario, Canada) have been married for thirty-nine years and have three adult children; Sarah (husband Jake), Jason (wife Chelsea), and Samantha (husband Josh). Mike and Julie have four grandchildren (Gwen, Everett, Raelynn, and James); Mike has been a spiritual father to many young people.
Mike has served as interim preaching minister in seven Illinois Christian churches (Mt. Auburn, Heyworth-New Horizon, Hudson, Petersburg, Rochester, Monticello and Taylorville). He also served for five years as the part-time preaching minister of the South Fork Church of Christ near Rochester, Illinois. The Nichols' family currently resides near Greenview, Illinois.
Mike has published articles on missions topics in two different professional journals and has recently published his first book, “Short Life: Living for What Matters During our Few Days on Earth” with MorganJames Publishing.
In 2018, Mike accepted the call to be the part-time “Teaching Pastor” at the Mason City Christian Church in Mason City, IL and in 2021 transitioned to the full-time Lead Pastor.
